Bangkok Curry Tofu is our house curry for anyone eating meat-free: golden tofu simmered in a coconut curry with Thai herbs and vegetables, served with rice. It is the dish we point vegetarian guests to first.
The curry begins with a Thai curry paste bloomed in coconut milk until the oil separates and the aromatics come forward. Tofu goes in to soak up the sauce along with vegetables, and the pot is finished with Thai herbs so the curry tastes fresh rather than heavy.
Tofu is a natural fit for Thai curry because it carries flavour instead of competing with it. Served with steamed rice it is a full meal on its own, and it is one of the dishes that travels best — the sauce holds its heat all the way to Fort Rouge, Wolseley or River Heights.
Curry paste is fried in coconut milk first, never stirred in at the end, which is the step that separates a Thai curry from a bland one. Each order is finished in its own pan so the spice level can be built to your taste.
It is built as a meat-free dish around tofu and vegetables. Thai curry pastes and sauces can contain fish sauce or shrimp paste, so if you eat strictly vegetarian or vegan let our team know and we will tell you what we can prepare for you.
We can cook it mild, medium or hot. Tell us your preference when you order and we will season the pan to match.
Thai curries are served to be eaten with rice. Confirm your rice choice when you place the order and we will pack it so nothing goes soggy on the way home.
